Language Arts placement

Hey guys welcome back!

In this blog I'm going to be talking about language arts and how it is imputed throughout my classroom that I am in for methods. If you don't already know my placement is West Union elementary and I have 1st graders and let me just say each and everyone of them are amazing! Its crazy how close you get to each and everyone of them in such a short period of time.

So when it comes to language arts its my favorite subject especially when it comes to early childhood beacuse there are so many fun lesson and activities you can do with your class. At my placement we do language arts throughout the whole day, One of the thing we do in class that my students really enjoy is reading. We always start the day off with reading to the class sometimes we chose a student to pick a book or the teacher chose. While the teacher reads she ask the students questions throughout the whole story the students love that.

Another thing about my class is they are the lowest level functioning 1st graders in that grade level. I have students who don't know how to write there names or do the alphabet so we practice that everyday. After we do our morning reading we break up into our groups and the students move from center to center. Each center has different things that they have to do some examples of things we do is one center will have computers and they will work on Reading Horizons, another center will be practicing the alphabet, a reading center, and a worksheet center. Each group differs with students a group could be very low and one could be very high functioning, each group has a name such has the rainbow fish's or the shark group so each student knows where to go. The center that I am at is the worksheet center this past week I worked with students on there "r" blends and they enjoyed it.

Those are just a few things that we have worked on in class and there is so much more I could go on for days . I really enjoy watching each student grow as a learner it sure is amazing and I know by the end of the year each student will make so much progress and I cant wait to see that. Thanks for reading my blog!

Social Studies Placement

Hi everyone!

Welcome to my Blog this week I'm going to be talking about where I see social studies in my methods placement. I am placed at West Union Elementary and I have 1st graders and I absolutely love it! There hasn't been much social studies being taught throughout the classroom just yet but there has been a few things. One thing that we have done so far in the classroom is the students each were given a picture with something on it such as "run in the hallway" or  "be nice to your friends", they had to place the picture on the good choice or bad choice side. This is a great thing for students to visually see what good choices look like and what does bad choices look like. Another thing we have done in class is how or what does good and bad behavior look like on the school bus, they were given a picture of a kid doing something good/bad and that had to color it and write a sentences about it. They also brought in a bus called Buster the Bus and he showed how to act on the bus and bus safety look like "look both ways when crossing the street". You can relate these lessons to your everyday life making good and bad choices are something your are faced with everyday, so for 1st grade I think these lesson are good examples to show. Right now we are doing a lot of math and language arts, there are many lessons where I could incorporate social studies, the students love to be read to so I could read them a information text about someone such as Johnny Apple Seed and then we can talk about it.

Math Blog

Hello everyone! I have chosen a great series that is all about math, the series is called Pigs will be Pigs by Amy Axeirod. I remember these series of books when I was in school and I remember how much fun they were. One of the stories of the series is a family of pigs decides that they were really hungry and wanted to go out to dinner, but the only problem is they didn't have enough money so they decide to go on a hunt to see if they can find money so they can go to dinner to feed there hungry bellies. After they searched all over the house in the couch cushions they finally came up with enough money, but once they got there they knew they had to add up everything that they were getting to make sure they  had enough money to get everything there hungry bellies desired. The book had a menu with the prices on it so that's a good way for kids to get involved and help add up the total to see if they will have enough money for everything. In the end the pigs got there bellies full and they enjoyed there yummy dinner.

These books are perfect for any classroom they have so many fun stories and activities for the student to be involved in. That's the reason why I love these books and I remember them from school, and its also nice that you can learn so much from them and have a fun and enjoyable time whiled doing it. But I highly recommend these series to be in your classroom I promise your students will love them. Its a great way for them to solve math problems, learn about money, and also learn about life skills has well because if you go in a restaurant  and only have a certain amount to spend you have to limit yourself on what you get and it might not always be what you exactly want.

Science Blog

I don't know about you guys but science has always been a fun subject in school, and there always something fun to do and learn. I found this book called How a Seed Grows by Helene Jordan this book is such a fun book to have in your classroom and I know your going to love it just as much as I did.

How does a tiny acorn grow into an enormous oak tree? If  you don't you will find out in this book that I have chose for you guys. This book has beautiful and accurate watercolor illustrations from Loretta Krupinski, this book traces the process of how a little seed grows into the plants and trees that surround us.

I think this book is great to have in your classroom because it shows how plants grow over time, and children love plants and there always fun to look at because there around us every where. When you think of a plant and how it grows its kind of how humans grow we start out as little seeds and we grow into something big and beautiful. You could do so many projects with your students after readying this book you could bring seeds in and have them plant them and take care of them and watch them grow before there eyes. So not only is this book great but it can teach your students as well, so you need to go to the store and purchase this book for your class I promise you wont be disappointed.

The Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving
By: Ann McGroven

Hey everybody ! This week I have a great book to share with you, I'm going to talk about a book called The Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving by Ann McGover. This book I have chosen to talk about is a great social studies book for you to use in your classroom , it talks about so many different things it describes the voyage of the Mayflower and the difficulties encountered by the Pilgrims during their first year in the New World, and recounts how they celebrated their first harvest. This is a perfect book to use in your classroom because its November and that means Thanksgiving is coming up, this book would be perfect to introduce your class and you could do so many fun activities after you read this book to your class.

This story is a great one to read to your students, it can open up discussion on the first Thanksgiving.  Students can learn about how Thanksgiving became about, what they went through, and how it made a difference in American and other places across the world. Nonfiction

If your an animal lover you will love this nonfiction book and I promise you that! This book is a great book to add to your collection, this book talks about how people go inside or go undercover once rain starts up. This book discusses how it similar to animals when it comes to rain, because different animals have different ways and things they do when it starts to rain. It talks about the different habitats that animals live in such as the wet lands, forests, fields and more and it discusses how and what each animal does when it starts to rain, you'd figure that they would all do the same thing but your wrong. The book then talks about once the rain ends and how everyone goes back to what there doing, its crazy how animals and humans do things the same they don't like to get rained on just like we do.

This book is perfect for your classroom because it talks about the different animals and their environments, your students will love looking through this book and looking at the different pictures of the animals and where they live. The students could talk about some of the animals they may have seen before and figure out what type of environment they live in.

But I highly recommend this book to your students because it has so much to offer I don't know about you but I'm a sucker for a good book with pictures and this book has some beautiful pictures throughout it. So next time your out at the store pick up this book for your classroom or just for yourself if you want, I promise you wont be disappointed.

Traditional Literature

This week's post is all about Traditional Literature, and that means I picked one of my favorite childhood books to talk to you guys about. Cinderella lives In a far far away kingdom, Cinderella is living happily with her mother and father until her mother dies. Cinderella's father remarries a cold, cruel woman who has two daughters, Drizella and Anastasia. When the father dies, Cinderella's wicked stepmother turns her into a virtual servant in her own house. Meanwhile, across town in the castle, the King determines that his son the Prince should find a suitable bride . So the King invites every eligible maiden in the kingdom to a fancy dress ball, where his son will be able to choose his bride. Cinderella has no suitable party dress for a ball, but her friends the mice, birds, and Godmother lend a hand in making her one. When she walked into the ball she took every ones breath away including the prince and all the girls were jealous of her including her evil step sisters. Cinderella was enjoying herself so much she almost forgot what the Godmother had told her about the spell, so she quickly left the prince at the ball and ran away but she left something behind and the prince happen to find it after she had gone it was her glass slipper and he was determine to find her so he could give it back to her and tell her how he feels about her.

This is all I'm going to tell you for now because I don't want to ruin the story for you so you'll have to read it and found out the ending for yourself. I think this is a great story to read for all age groups, and it shows that no matter where you come from there can always be a happy ending and a happily ever after !
